This Bugatti's top has seen better days, not to mention that the zippered window was not the original style. This convertible top like many limited production hand built cars has to be custom made. This style top also has many components. there's the outer top, the inner pad, and the headliner. Below are some pictures of the process that goes into fabricating a top for a hand built car.
The first step is to strip down the top to the bare frame. Removing the outer top reveals the inner pad, below the inner pad is the headliner
once everything is completely removed we can inspect the condition of the wood bows and tack strips that the top gets attached to. As you can see most of the wood was dry rotted and had to be replaced.
Once all the wood was remade and installed, a new wool headliner is fit to the frame, then the inner pad is fabricated.
After the inner pad and headliner are finished, the top is the next thing to get fitted. the top gets partially installed then trimmed and finally removed, bound, and reinstalled.
Here's the completed top assembly with a correct style rear window. This top is capable of a partially closed position as seen in the picture, it allowed the rear passengers to be covered while the driver was open to the elements.
